The recently launched Alphacrete Acoustic block is the first of its kind and is now playing a vital role in creating spaces where people are able to hear speech and music more clearly and more easily.
Alphacrete Acoustic was developed in association with acoustic noise control specialists, AWN Consulting and Commercial Connections.
Available in a wide range of colours, it has a maintenance-free surface, enabling specifiers to create stunning schemes which not only look good, but sound good as well.
The product works by reducing reverberation or the persistence of sound, once the person speaking - or music - has stopped. It also lessens other acoustic defects such as flutter echoes and standing waves produced by hard reflective parallel wall surfaces.
The number of hard surfaces in any large internal space make it an extremely ‘live’ environment as far as sound is concerned. The acoustic environment is primarily judged by its reverberation time. This is the time in seconds that it takes for a sound to decay by 60-decibels or a millionth of its energy level once the original sound has ceased.
The installation of the Alphacrete® Acoustic block will have a number of effects. The primary effect is to reduce the reverberation in the hall thereby significantly reducing the amplified airborne sound energy. Secondly the flutter echoes and standing waves produced by reflective parallel wall surfaces will be significantly reduced.
The overall result is reduced distraction from airborne noise and also improved speech intelligibility. Subjectively a considerable reduction in reverberant noise levels will be achieved.
